THE MYTH OF THE Mermaid
The myth of the Mermaid of Thessaloniki is one of the most famous and beloved myths of the city as well as its emblem. The half-sister of Alexander the Great, Thessaloniki, was transformed into a Mermaid when she accidentally threw away the "immortal water" that her brother had acquired with effort and danger to ensure immortality.
